چکیده

We extend our results on fictitious domain methods for Poisson’s problem to the case of incompressible elasticity, or Stokes’ problem. The mesh is not fitted to the domain boundary. Instead boundary conditions are imposed using a stabilized Nitsche type approach. Control of the non-physical degrees of freedom, i.e., those outside the physical domain, is obtained thanks to a ghost penalty term for both velocities and pressures. Both inf-sup stable and stabilized velocity pressure pairs are considered. Mathematics Subject Classification. 65N12, 65N30. Received August 14, 2012. Revised August 8, 2013. Fictitious domain finite element methods using cut elements: II. A stabilized Nitsche method

We extend the classical Nitsche type weak boundary conditions to a fictitious domain setting. An additional penalty term, acting on the jumps of the gradients over element faces in the interface zone, is added to ensure that the conditioning of the matrix is independent of how the boundary cuts the mesh. Optimal a priori error estimates in the H1 and L2 norms are proved as well as an upper boun...

A Higher Order Isoparametric Fictitious Domain Method for Level Set Domains

We consider a new fictitious domain approach of higher order accuracy. To implement Dirichlet conditions we apply the classical Nitsche method combined with a facet-based stabilization (ghost penalty). Both techniques are combined with a higher order isoparametric finite element space which is based on a special mesh transformation. The mesh transformation is build upon a higher order accurate ...

Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing Preprint Seria Inf-sup stability of geometrically unfitted Stokes finite elements

The paper shows an inf-sup stability property for several well-known 2D and 3D Stokes elements on triangulations which are not fitted to a given smooth or polygonal domain. The property implies stability and optimal error estimates for a class of unfitted finite element methods for the Stokes and Stokes interface problems, such as Nitsche-XFEM or cutFEM. The error analysis is presented for the ...

Weakly Enforced Boundary Conditions for the Nurbs-based Finite Cell Method

In this paper, we present a variationally consistent formulation for the weak enforcement of essential boundary conditions as an extension to the finite cell method, a fictitious domain method of higher order. The absence of boundary fitted elements in fictitious domain or immersed boundary methods significantly restricts a strong enforcement of essential boundary conditions to models where the...

A Distributed Lagrange Multiplier/fictitious Domain Method for Incompressible Flow around Ball

In this paper, an analysis of 3-dimensional problem using a fictitious domain method based on distributed Lagrange multiplier is discussed. Using this approach allows us to compute moving boundary problems successfully. First of all, how to use a fictitious domain method using navier stokes equations is explained. Next, incompressible viscous fluid around circular cylinder and ball are restrict...
